Dentures are a removable substitute for lost teeth. Tru Family Dental offers two types of dentures: complete and partial. Complete dentures are for patients who don’t have any teeth, and partial dentures are for patients who still have some of their natural teeth. Also, overdentures incorporate implants that help maintain the jawbone while wearing dentures.
What should I expect when I get new dentures?
Your new dentures may feel a little bit strange for the first few weeks of wear, until you get used to having them in your mouth. Eating might also feel uncomfortable for the first few weeks, so try soft foods that are cut into small bites at first. It’s important to chew slowly and use both sides of your mouth to chew. Don’t eat foods that are hot, sticky or hard, and avoid sharp bones and shells.
You may have a hard time saying some words after you get your dentures. If this is the case, practice saying the hard words when you can.
How often can I wear my dentures?
The dentist will give you personal instructions for wearing your dentures. When you first get your dentures, you might be asked to wear them 24 hours a day, even when you go to bed. This is the best way to identify the areas on the dentures that might need to be adjusted. After necessary adjustments are made, you will need to take out your dentures before you go to bed.
